Obama’s FCC transition co-chair is a WoW player – WoW Insider

Wow.  This is pretty damn cool :’)

WoW FCCObama’s FCC transition co-chair is a WoW player – WoW Insider:
by Mike Schramm
Nov 20th, 2008

I’ve had a political dream for a while now that I think all of us WoW players can agree on: someday, I hope, we will have a President in the White House that plays videogames. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re closer — apparently, Obama’s FCC transition co-chair is a WoW player, and has played in two different endgame guilds, including Joi Ito’s famous We Know guild. This is a guy who knows all about the communities that these MMOs create, and just how awesome it is to run through Karazhan, or grind PvP for a Merciless Gladiator weapon… and he’s been selected by the incoming President of the United States to run the FCC. That’s beautiful.

PS3 Firmware 2.4 is out

Trophies are a go — in-game messaging?  Go.

The only regrets I have are that

  1. I’m not home to get it downloaded (at Sony’s ridiculously slow pace)
  2. I just got my 100th headshot award in Uncharted last night.

I finally bought a DualShock 3 last week, and it’s amazing what a difference it makes.  The controller finally feels like it’s the proper weight, and the feedback is exactly what I’ve been missing.

Chrono Trigger Coming to Nintendo DS

I know JohnBoy’s gonna love this news :)

Chrono Trigger DSChrono Trigger Coming to Nintendo DS:
One of the most loved RPGs coming to the Nintendo handheld.
By Sam Kennedy, 07/01/2008

See that image? It’s a screen capture of the Square Enix countdown page for Chrono Trigger for DS. How do we know? Well, the ctds (Chrono Trigger DS) in the page’s URL, not to mention the emblematic Chrono series clock imagery, are pretty telling. It also doesn’t hurt that scans from the Japanese magazine Jump confirming the game have just started hitting the web. So yeah, after being rumored for quite some time, Chrono Trigger is headed for the DS. And it appears to be a port of the original game, not a remake.

Those of you who’ve played the original no doubt know of its greatness (it’s my personal favorite RPG of all time), but for those of you who haven’t, check out this recent episode of Retronauts or this Chrono Trigger club to get a better understanding of why it’s so loved. So while Chrono Trigger for the DS isn’t exactly the Chrono news fans have been hoping for these past few years, I’m still pretty stoked. How about you guys?

Surprise! Rock Band 2 announced – Joystiq

Now THIS is the way to do a sequel!!!!

THANK YOU, Harmonix!

Check this out:

  • Rock Band 1 DLC is compatible.  This means that the 50 songs I’ve bought are going to work.  Makes sense, right?  I’m looking at you, Guitar Hero.  Individual game discs for say, the 80′s or Aerosmith suck ass.
  • Rock Band 1 instruments are compatible.  Awesome!  Not as big a deal as the DLC, but this means my investment in the original instruments isn’t going to waste, either.

You guys win:  I’ll surely buy RB2.

Surprise! Rock Band 2 announced – Joystiq:
by Ross Miller Jun 30th 2008 3:33AM

One of gaming’s worst-kept secrets is now official: Rock Band 2 is coming. IGN has the scoop and an interview with lead designer Dan Teasdale, who reveals that all the current and future DLC will be compatible with both versions of Rock Band, as well as the same instrument controllers.

While details were scarce, Teasdale said to expect improvements for band and character customization as well as the navigation system and Band World Tour. Citing the current issues with random set lists, Teasdale said, “Nobody wants to play Green Grass and High Tides in their first random set list.” Visually, the few images seen show the game has changed very little from its predecessor (and yes, it turns out the box art from a leaked survey was accurate).

As for what songs to expect, Teasdale said, “we’ve also secured what I can easily say is the best set list I’ve ever seen in a music game.” He provided no examples, although we wonder if The Beatles fall onto that list. Rock Band 2 is set to debut at E3 next month.
