Gmail Labs finally available to more custom domains

Gmail LabsWoot.
Dan Benjamin discovered that the Labs tab is finally available to those domains that couldn’t get access to it.  One of my domains had it, another didn’t.

Dan Benjamin – Labs Love At Last:
The Google Labs feature allows users to enable new features and fixes, including great improvements to IMAP functionality, like better folder (aka label) management, auto-expunge control, and more.

The main thing I wanted was the ability to hide the “All Mail” label in my IMAP accounts — now I can :’)

Google Reader redesign

BeforeHere’s how it used to look.

AfterAnd here’s how it looks now.

The main thing I like is that you can collapse sidebars you don’t use.  As with most Google updates, it’s pretty non-offensive, and welcome.

Official Google Reader Blog: Square is the new round.:
Google is all about speed, both under the hood as well as in the user experience. So, in order to make Reader act and feel more speedy and responsive, we’ve removed some visual clutter, simplified some features and given everything a bit more breathing room. Out with the old rounded corners, drop shadows and heavily saturated colors — in with a softer palette, faster components and a fresh new look.

iPodNN | Google aims to have native iPhone apps at launch

iPodNN | Google aims to have native iPhone apps at launch:

Google intends to be early with the development of native iPhone 2.0 applications, according to the company’s vice president of engineering. “We expect to have applications at Day One,” says Vic Gundotra, in reference to June’s expected launch of the App Store and the iPhone 2.0 firmware. Although Gundotra refuses to comment on the details of particular software, he notes that development of web applications will continue in parallel, because these can be continually updated and improved without requiring a new download. “It’s the best of both worlds,” commments Gundotra.

Ohhhhh man, I hope Google Reader’s included.  I’d love some local caching capability!

Ongoing IFrame attack proving difficult to kill — Ars Technica Ongoing IFrame attack proving difficult to kill

Technologically, this is impressive work.  Read the full arstechnica.com article for the specifics.  These guys are getting scary.  It’s tough being a Windows user today — I almost feel bad for Microsoft because of how damaging this is to their business.

Almost.

Ongoing IFrame attack proving difficult to kill

This particular IFrame exploit takes advantage of web site query caching. Web sites often cache the results of search queries that are run locally. These search results are forwarded to search engine providers (think Google or Yahoo), who use the information to generate their own search results. Hackers exploit the system by typing a query immediately followed by the text of an IFrame. This data (including the IFrame) is then passed to various search engines and displayed if a user searches for a relevant keyword. When the user visits an apparently legitimate document, the IFrame activates and attempts to complete whatever instructions it has been given.
