The UNIX way isn’t always the best way

I spent most of my free time in the last four days setting up a new mail server for myself.  The old one, you see, decided that it’d had enough.  I can’t be too upset, considering it’d been running on an old IBM ThinkPad for about three years straight.

Google Labs Does It Again

This is just insane….. Google’s RideFinder keeps track of where the city’s cabs are and puts them on a Google Map (you DID know about Google Maps, right?). I’m still not sure how useful this is, but I suppose it’d be nice to know who to call just as you’re walking out the door of your office, or something, but as a regular joe, wandering around town, you’re not likely.. IBM using the dessert cart approach, again

Not that it’s a bad thing, but it’s at least consistent.  I read this article today talking about how IBM are offering trial licenses for pre-installed VMWare servers w/ the purchase of their blade servers.  I think it’s a decent-enough idea:  as an advocate of VMWare’s products, I think they’re on to something.  Once you start using them, you’ll see just how far ahead of the market that they are… Read More

I love OS X

I was faced w/ having to process a text file today. The text file was an LDAP export; full of tons of information on each user account. I only needed one line of the roughly 30 lines in each user’s account information. There are over 200 user accounts in that file; roughly 6000 lines. My first thought? Let’s try MS Word.
