What a long day yesterday was.

We’ve been using VMWare’s ESX server to virtualize the 26 boxes we have here.  As a long-time fan of VirtualPC (now owned by Microsoft), I was anxious to try their server offering when it became available, but the ESX server is just so much further along than VPC it just made sense go w/ EMC’s product (they bought VMWare).

So far, I LOVE having an ESX server of my own — you don’t have to pay the overhead of running Windows as the host OS (they made their own linux distro) — we’ve moved three of my four servers onto the new box so far, w/ one of two more to follow.  Somehow, however, lots of settings got borked after we moved the first three.

I spent 8 hours troubleshooting and fixing one (semi-important) problem.  Ugh.

It wasn’t all bad — it started snowing around 9 or 10 AM yesterday, so we decided to head home after we went to our local lunch hang-out.  Ironically, it’d stopped snowing by the time lunch was over, but in my car, I’d rather not risk it — it handles amazingly poor in the snow.  Usually lunch is just the three of us — two Bears and a Weasel (and weasel’s not meant as an insult; we’re all really tight), but today a co-worker and her girlfriend joined us — it was nice to finally put a face to the name.

Anywho:  work is progressing on the big project, and I got a good bit done last night before I just had to head to dreamland.  Wifie even made note of how tired I looked.

I’m feeling great this crisp, bitter-cold morning, so I’m gonna go get a cuppa joe and get crackin!
