WASHINGTON — President Bush on Wednesday signed legislation aimed at helping parents keep their children from seeing sex scenes, violence and foul language in movie DVDs.

The bill gives legal protections to the fledgling filtering technology that helps parents automatically skip or mute sections of commercial movie DVDs. Bush signed it privately and without comment, White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

If you were truly committed to keeping your family away from smut, wouldn’t you just NOT rent said DVDs?  This seems really hokey to me.

Why not go all-out like the Amish do?  I have nothing but the deepest respect for them — their no-compromise approach even allows you to make an informed decision about whether or not Amish life is for you before asking you to obligate yourself to their community.  Once you decide to go for it, though — you’re in:  kinda like the mafia, heh.

Let’s face it, our society’s rife w/ “smutâ€? (1.2M hits on google).  If you’re truly concerned about the upbringing of your children, why not just turn off the TV altogether?

I don’t care if you’re going to be a puritan, but be a friggin MAN about it and go all the way!
